For the first time ever, magazine covers went interactive.
Thanks to DynaColorTM thermochromic offset inks
from Chromatic Technologies, the cover of the January 2001
issue of WIRED Magazine was a heat-sensitive
plaything, changing colors when held with a warm hand, rubbed
or breathed on.
WIRED was pleased to be the first to use the idea on a
major magazine cover. "It's been a very popular issue," said
WIRED's Jay Dayrit, noting that they've had an unusual number
of requests for extra copies. Both WIRED and CTI received many
calls as a result of the issue, from ad agencies, designers,
printers and others, wanting to know how they could do
something similar with CTI's interactive inks.
WIRED made no mention in the issue of how the effect was
accomplished, perhaps heightening the intrigue surrounding it,
and causing some individuals to spend hours searching out the
source of the interactive ink. |
